Thanksgiving Ancestry

Last night here at Rosy's parents' home in Idaho Falls we had a family program, and during that program Rosy's Grandma Hatch passed out a pedigree chart that has quite a bit of significance to the family during this time of year. Rosy's 9x Great Grandfather was William Bradford, one of the founders of Plymouth Colony and the man who is thought to be responsible for the first Thanksgiving meal in 1621.

Hunter was particularly interested in this fact, as his class at school has been studying the original Thanksgiving and Hunter was familiar with Bradford from school. He asked his Great Grandma Hatch for a copy of the pedigree, which she gave him.

If you click on the link above, Wikipedia has listed several of Bradford's famous descendants. Of those, Hunter can brag that he is related to Clint Eastwood, Julia Child, Christopher Reeve, and William Rehnquist, among many others. More history for Hunter and his brothers to learn.

Ellis

Ellis is slowly but surely starting to get the hang of the English language. One word he has unfortunately mastered early is "no." But, to his credit, when he says no he does so with an uncanny and dramatic sincerity.

He taught himself a new word tonight. "Bobby." It means apple.

Braden is the one laughing in the background. He says it's the laugh track for the video, like on Seinfield.

Boise State University Entrance Exam

It's rivalry week. No, not BYU-Utah (that's next Saturday). I mean Boise State-Idaho. Ever since I was at the U of I and Trevor was at BSU in the early 90s this has been a family affair, and to be honest this rivalry is just as intense and even mean-spirited in Idaho as the BYU-Utah game can be in Utah. Now that Tate has a BSU degree and Taggart also attended there, Rosy and I have become outnumbered. But we remain loyal.

With all of that in mind, I wanted to post a little gem I read earlier this week. It's the BSU entrance exam, and all potential students must pass it to gain entrance. And if you Castleton BSU alumni have an inkling to get your feelers hurt by reading this, just remember the following: consider BSU's record in football the last 10 years vs. the UI's, and the fact that your presidential candidate just won. I think you'll be OK.

Dogshaw

Rosy, the kids, and I went on a family walk tonight along the Greenbelt. We had Hailey with us since Grami and Grandpa are out of town. Ellis was in the jogger and loved having a dog along for the walk. On the way back Ellis decided that he wanted to be the one who got to hold Hailey's leash, so we let him take it. Seeing that she had a new person with the leash, Hailey decided to take things a little faster, and we put that enthusiasm to work, letting Hailey pull Ellis a good part of the way home. Ellis thought it was great, pulling himself closer to Hailey and then letting the slack out as he fell back. Hailey didn't seem to notice the difference.

We spent some time down on the river letting the kids throw rocks, and they had a good time with that.

All Hallows Eve

We had a lot of fun on Halloween. Hunter was a ghost, Ellis a skeleton, and Braden was Luke Skywalker. I thought that we should all dressed up as Mii's (from Wii). I was informed by Hunter that the only thing good about that idea is not to do it. Bruce and I were lame this year (as usual) and did not dress up at all. Rather than us carving pumpkins at our home this year we went over to a family in our ward and carved over there . They decorate their home with 100 pumpkins every year and need all the help they can get. On Halloween we headed out at about 6:30. It was so nice and warm, I think it was about 65 degrees. I loved how light it was. It is usually so dark when we are trick-or-treating. We headed to the Sarantas's home for potato bar and photos of the kids with their pumpkins. Then we trick-or-treated down Warm Springs ave. It was beautiful. All of the big trees had been dropping leaves all week. The ground crunched as we walked. Next, we headed to Meridian for Shellie's party. We did some cookie decorating, more eating, and more trick-or-treating. Shellie's neighbor had a haunted house thing. Ellis would not enter, it was pretty funny to see. After Shellie's we went over to the Whitney's. The kids played and did more trick-or-treating. Braden liked answering Dr. Whitney's door and talking to the trick-or-treaters through the doorbell. Kate and Emma were so cute dressed up like Snow White and Minnie Mouse. We enjoyed spending time with our friends but, missed seeing Grandpa and Grammi this year. We are glad that they were able to spend some time with Grace and Lilly in Illinois. I was thinking of Halloween last year. The kids and I went over to Alterra to see Great Grandma. She and a friend were dressed up together eating in the dining room. She was dressed as a little devil. She looked so cute. We love Great Grandma.
