The first post

We're both sitting looking at the screen at the birth of our family blog. It's pretty underwhelming when compared to other births we've been through together, but oh well. Right now we're thinking we'll use this to make some sort of record for our family, though to be honest we don't really feel like sharing it with anyone. Sorry.

Boise, Idaho. Not where we thought we'd end up almost eleven years ago when we started this partnership, not that we had any idea of where we'd be by now or what we'd be doing. To me the hardest part of all of this is that after that long of time we still feel like we're just starting out in so many ways. We still have a sense sometimes that our life--I guess the life we thought we'd have at this point when we started out in 1997--is still somewhere off in the distance waiting to be discovered. We have a son who is about to turn 10, we're five years out of law school, Bruce is a few years shy of 40, and we still think we're just getting started. It's pretty ...what? Stupid? Bewildering? Kind of like listening to our seven year-old belt out the Twelve Days of Christmas on the first day of February as he brushes his teeth. It just doesn't feel right, necessarily.

If the Lord sees a thousand years on Earth as one day, then we all get about 1.92 hours here....

Rosy says shut up Bruce and stop being so deep. She wants to note that though we're starting a blog like my three brothers and their families, we're really not like them. At all. For example, they're all raving lunatic Democrats who are going to vote for Osama--Obama, I mean--and we're gun-toting right-wing hicks from Idaho, though we think Tyler's a closet Republican who just stays quiet around his bleeding heart brothers and you just can't tell what he thinks.

We have to pause and remember that despite all of our reservations about our family we love them to death. We're blessed to have them and we always enjoy being with them. And because of this love we start this blog.
